3rd Sunday of Advent

Rejoice in the Lord
Rejoice for He is near!

Praise the Lord all you people
Celebrate him all you nations!

Morning hymn

Ineffable source of light,
Word in whom the Eternal One contemplates God’s beauty,
Star that shines more brightly than the sun
Sacred day that gives brightness to our days

Arise adorable sun,
From all eternity you shower us with happiness
Let your saving brightness shine before our eyes,
And spread within us the fire of your love.

Guide us on our journey
May we be docile to your divine law;
Fill us with a hope that dispels all doubt
May our faith never be shaken by error

May Christ be our celestial food,
May the water of a living faith quench our thirst
May we be enlivened only by your Spirit.
And fortified by your strength.

Glory to you Blessed Trinity:
Father, Son and Spirit, whom we adore;
As long as the star gives light to the world
Till the end of the ages.

Saint Ambrose of Milan
Bishop and Doctor of the Church
(339-397)

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:4-7

Happiness awaits us

How comforting it is during these dark wintry days, and in the midst of so many disasters to ponder the tremendous happiness that awaits us in the future!  Our knowledge of created reality will be stretched to its utmost limits in the joy of realising that we possess within ourselves all that is.  We will become part of all that is most beautiful, all that is most true, capable of seeing in every created being a reflection of Being itself, God, who will have gifted our soul with God’s supreme truth.  This vision, which will never fade away, is the source of everything.  How rare it is to see our thirst for beauty satisfied!  At last our hearts will never cease loving each and every thing, each and everyone without fatigue or lassitude.

Madeleine Delbrêl (Letter to communities, Le Cerf, 1966)

«As Christians whose responsibility it is to keep the flame of desire alive on the earth, how do we live this season of waiting for the coming of the Lord?»

Teilhard de Chardin
